Ängesån is one of the larger tributaries of the Kalix River, classic salmon fly fishing water with great salmon and sea trout runs annually.

A beautiful swedish forest river, with some of the best fly fishing pools imaginable, broken up with both nice streams and calm waters as well as big and small rapids.

It begins its sprightly life, out among the headwaters of the Lina River and Vettasjoki. Downstream of the 16 meter high Lina falls, the Lina River runs into Ängesån, with more than six miles of varied fly fishing waters.

Anglers should come prepaired to combat these unique wild Baltic salmon, equiped with heavy gear. Ängesån salmon are distinctly short, with broad and sturdy bodies, an explosive powerhouse that many fishermen only dream about hooking!

Ängesån is considered to be the jewel of the north for Baltic Salmon, Sea Trout & Grayling, offering a fantastic opportunity for the serious fly fisherman to discover their own undisturbed fishing paradise.

Fishing with a worm or other natural bait in running water is not allowed on the association’s water upstream of the Tväredet bridge, nor in the Tvärån water system. If there are several anglers at the same spot, new arrivals shall begin fishing upstream and make their way downstream. The principle for angling is one cast – one step. This means it is not permitted to occupy a fishing spot. This applies to all anglers, both spinning and flyfishing. Remember that everyone holding a fishing permit has an equal right to angle. You are not allowed to use lead or other weights when fishing. For example, fishing with a spinner fly is not permitted. Boat fishing is allowed only on stretches downstream of the Tväredet bridge as far as the confluence with the River Kalix. When boat fishing, a maximum of one rod per person is permitted. Children aged under 16 fish for free.

    Grayling

Grayling fishing is banned between 1 March and 31 May. The minimum permissible length is 35 cm. A maximum of four grayling per day per angler may be kept.

    Salmon

Angling for salmon is permitted from 1 June to 31 August. The minimum length is 50 cm. During the period 1 June to 31 July, each angler may keep a maximum of one salmon per day. During the period 1 August to 31 August, no salmon may be killed and all salmon caught must be immediately put back.

    Trout

There is a total ban on trout fishing (to protect the weak trout population).

Anglers caught without a valid fishing permit will be fined 2,000 kronor
