1. Looks beautiful Sean and a fish to top it off.
  2. Its a nice little dam that is very close to where I live so I fish there quite often. Some good fish there and if you work at it you very seldom come out with nothing. I got another small carp later in the day. These were probably the smallest two fish I have caught there but it was a very slow day so I was happy to at least get something.

Been here at R50 dam since 6am. Got the rods in and caught one small carp quite quickly. Been a bit quiet since then.

I’ve been a bit scarce lately and I regret that. Between being busy at work and being on leave I have not been able to spend any time on here.

Luckily I have not been too busy to get some fishing done. Especially while I was on leave for two weeks in December.

It has been a mixture of bass fishing and carp fishing. The bass fishing has been pretty dismal so far this season with mostly very small fish being caught. We are suffering the effects of El Nino with very hot and dry spells with much less rain than we should be getting. This has caused the big fish to stay out in the deep water and thus we are mainly catching small fish.

On the Carp side, I have managed a few trips to the Vaal Dam and another small fishery near my house in Alberton by the name of 50 Rand Dam. Again, a lot of small carp being caught with the odd decent fish in the mix. A lot of Grass Carp with a few Commons and Mirrors. Also a few Mud Fish and the odd Barbel to keep things interesting. I have not really taken any pictures lately due to very few fish being worthy.

I will probably be out again this weekend. Have not decided where yet but lets hope I can land something worth taking a picture of.

  1. Tight lines Sean! Look forward to hearing how it goes.

The bass are definitely biting. Here is a fantastic fish that my son caught at Wemmer Pan. 1.98kg. His second of the day. First one was 0.790kg.

  1. Thats an awesome fish! Well done young man!

The first rain of spring is falling outside. Soft soaking rain. Looks like the season has changed. Within days the dry brown grass will be sprouting with new green growth. And the bass are biting. :-)

Here’s the bass.

Hey hey. Hooked my first bass of the season. Only a small one of about 300g ( not weighed) but it means the season is on. Guess what I am going to be doing a lot of?

Here are a couple of pics of the Mudfish that my son caught.

While we have been waiting for the Bass season to start again, we have been doing some Couse fishing for Carp at some of our local dams. Here are a couple of pics of fish that my kids have caught.
