Apologies for being so Quiet. It has been pretty dismal in terms of fishing with a very severe drought that has gripped the country. Many Dams just about empty. We have also had some Dams take fish out and moved to holding tanks as the water levels plummeted. We have however received some rainfall that has brought much needed relief but not nearly enough for the upcoming winter. We however still pray for more rain this winter.

Besides that I have also been through a harrowing time. We were surprised by 4 armed Criminals in our home. We were tied up while our home was ransacked. The Perps were looking for Firearms and Vehicles. They managed to leave with our electronic items, packed it all into our 2 Vehicles and left. I was Banged up abit but my Family was unscathed. It has taken some time to recover. Unfortunately i lost all my PC’s and info in the ordeal. Including 250 odd pages of the Fishing Book i was writing. Looks like i will have to start all over again.
Happy to be back on line.

  1. Hey James! What a nightmare. So glad to hear you and the family are alright after that buddy. Puts a new perspective on life I am sure. The book is gone but the knowledge is still there and the family are ok. As for the weather/rain, fingers crossed!
  2. It was hard to hit the like button on this one!
  3. Sorry to hear that James. I hope you soon get back to some normality and the family recover from the ordeal, and get back to fishing and writing your book.

Weekend @ Boschkop Vaal Dam turned out to be rather enjoyable. We had some nice catches coming in. Although it got really hot with temp of 38 degrees the fish were surprisingly active. Currently we are experiencing a drought in South Africa that is putting much strain on our Fresh water resources. The Vaal Dam is currently at 58% full with many other dams around the country below 30% full. This is fantastic for anglers as fish are concentrated but if the rains don’t come soon it will spell disaster for Angling in South Africa.

  1. Fingers crossed you get the rain James. Wish we could send you some of ours right now! Tight lines!

Weekend session at Kommandonek Hartebeespoort Dam.
You might not all know this but I’m involved in a Feed Product here in South Africa Called SUPRABOM. Suprabom is high in Protein 45% -47% fish feed which we use on our Rigs as a feed to pull and keep the Fish in our swim. There are many Feed Manufacturers out there but we specialize in only this Product. Here are some of the Catches made on SUPRABOM at Kommandonek resort, Hartebeespoort Dam near Pretoria this past weekend.

The Carp went into Full Spawning mode Last week and they have come in very close to the water grass. All these Fish were caught nothing further than 60m from the bank just off the Water Grass. Many more Larger Carp were Lost due to Sheer Size and power.
Was a Fantastic weekend with non stop action.

That moment when you going fishing with Brothers and all three of you have a run at the same time. Things get interesting very quickly. Re leaved as we all managed to land our fish with out getting tangled in each others line.

Was going through my Angling Photos and found this one. Same dam as in the previous post, stalking the Same tree but a very time of the year. Pineapple boilies are king at this little treasure of a dam in Hamburg.

  1. Apologies, Meant to say" a very different time of the year".
  2. Thats a cracking fish James. Great condition !

Short afternoon session stalking the waters of a local pond. Lovely Leather carp caught under the tree behind me in the background. Pre-feeding with a good quality Fish meal base Boilie glugged in Pineapple attractant.

Late afternoon fishing a small farm dam out in Randfontein. One of those special places that always seems to have a surprise for a angler. For a small Dam she holds some fine specimens and is one of those Gems you take your Kids too.

  1. Fantastic caption James! That is the kind of image that gets the fisherman blood racing to find the nearest bit of water.
  2. Thank you Mark. Cannot agree more. Have not been able to get out this weekend Yet. Going through all my Angling photos is little compensation lol. The only thing I have managed to do was to feed my Hunger for a fishing session even more!

Hartebeesport Dam.
On a Autumn weekend 6th to 8th March 2015 We went for a weekend session to Hartebeespoort Dam. We managed to get lines in around 11H30 on the Friday morning on the shore of Eagle Waters Resort. The fishing was fabulous to say the least. The following Photos were taken on the evening of Friday, then Saturday Morning, Saturday Afternoon and Sunday Morning.

For our Friends far a field this is how we Fish in South Africa. Conventional Angling AKA Papgooi , loosely translated to Throw Porridge.
1st Photo is of My fishing Box as it is now. 2nd Photo is to show what the set up looks like at the water.

Bronkhorstspruit Dam.
The Wild life, Sunsets, Beauty and Fish of-course.
Decided to put some specimen rods in while keeping myself busy with Conventional angling at Bronkies. Had a Few enquiries on the specimen rods but no runs. Catches got off to a slow start but found our pace and got into some fish in the evenings. It was slow over all but by Sunday Morning we were pleased with the results.

  1. Nice photos! Love to see more! Add the images to the water profile for Bronkhorstspruit Dam :)
