Näkten – a diversified lake.
Näkten can give, for an interested fisher, strong experiences. Here exist endless capabilities to fish in a nature that are without a match.
There are not many lakes in our country that can display so many faces as Näkten. The forty kilometres long lake criss-cross a cross-section of the jämtländska landscape, from public bright countryside to untouched and enchanting wilderness.

Pike bays and perch angling shallow.
In the lakes northern part, near Fåker and Hackås, is it a graceful idyll surrounded by small villages, croft and billowy meadows. The church in Näs shines like a white lamp across country and lake.
Here’s Näkten made for having lazy days with bath, perch angling and fishing with spinning rod after pike. There are many bays of reed, sounds and capes; there it is easy to fish from ashore. Viken, Grönviken, Månsta, Näcksta and Lillå are some locations near the European highway 45 that can be highly recommended. Do not use to weak fishing tools! The biggest pike caught in Näkten weighed 16,6 kilo and perches in the lake can become very big. The quality on the pikes and the perches – like all fish in Näkten – is off the highest class thanks to the purity of the water.

Water of the wilderness.
The wilderness takes over South off a line from Lillå to Korvågsnäset. The environment on both sides off the long and narrow lake becomes barren with bony pines, capes, rocks and rocky islets. The beaches are partly descended abruptly down in the black depth. The strong mood of the wilderness at the lake amplifies by the rich wild life. Bird of preys, lots off waterfowl, great grouse, black grouse, woodpeckers, moose and beaver and many other species thrives in the undisturbed environment.
In these parts off Näkten and all the way down to the lakes south point at Gillhov several more fish species are added such as grayling, whitefish, freshwater trout and char.

Grayling and whitefish.
In the summer time it is the grayling that is the easiest fish to catch. The grayling often sustains just a few meters out from the beaches. It is especially good to fish graylings around capes and islets with gravel- and stone- bottoms. The graylings bite on fly from beginning of June until November. The graylings in Näkten are off a very fine type, powerful and in fighting trim. It isn’t uncommon to catch graylings around 1 kilo and to get such fish on a fly rod is a nice experience.
To fish grayling with spinning rod and small spinner also works fine. Since the graylings is so near the beach it also works fine with long rod and fly. ”Red Tag” is an unfailing fly for graylings Näkten.
The whitefish, which can become very big in Näkten, is usually longer out in the lake. Occasionally the whitefish shoal goes in against the beaches and bites readily on small, small spinner. Under the early spring is the ice fishing after grayling and whitefish very good in Näkten.

Freshwater trout and charr.
The lake trout moves in deeper water, if you don’t have access to boat you can reach it with tailspin and heavier fishing tackle. Trolling after big trout is a popular fishing method among the local residents.
The charr in Näkten is widely known in fishing circuits and can become very big, some specimen over 6 kilo have been caught. Under the winter and spring it is mostly from ice the fishing take place. Some of the good ice fishing places is near Salsån, Dödre and Sandnäset. Under the summer it is necessary to use a boat in order to fish the char in Näkten. A long fishing tackle is a giving method. Annually big masses of charrs are planted in to the lake.

A mythical fishing.
The char fishing in Näkten was a very valuable accession to provide the local residents with food in the past. Many are the stories that describe the char fishing. Once it led to a priest getting murded:
A priest was on his way from Revsund to Berg to perform a service. He followed the ancient path across the deep forest between Bodsjö and Dödre. When he arrived to Näkten he realized that the correct fishing time for char had appeared. The priest, forgotten the time and his duties, started to fish at the chars playground near Monäset. The peasants became bitter over the negligent priest that not came to perform the service and they stoned him to death. The mound of stone where the priest was buried is still remaining at Mördarberget (murder mountain) on Monäset, but most of the bones have been moved to holy soil on the churchyard in Berg.

Availability.
Thanks to its long and narrow shape is Näkten an easily accessed lake. Also perfect for ice fishing under the winter. It is peculiar with Näkten that you don’t need to take many steps from nearest motor road before you find yourself entirely alone in the nature in a most sympathetic wilderness.
Along the entire east side off the lake goes road from Grönviken to Gillhov near the lake. In the northwest part off Näkten closes up to the European highway 45 and it is easiest to gain access in Grönviken, Månsta, Näcksta, Lillå, Rogsta and Salsån. Longer south it is easy to gain access to Näkten along the road between Skucku and Gillhov.
You can also drift along the Näktenleden around the lake and stay and fish on reasonable locations.
