Situated either side of Lowood Bridge on the Melrose to Galashiels road the beat has picturesque views of the Eildons and the beautiful surrounding countryside. Middle Pavilion is sheltered by hardwoods on the south bank giving protection from the southerly and westerly winds. The north side of the river is made up of a large easily accessible grassy bank where the hut and decking preside.

Due to its proximity to the A68 and A7, access to the river is very good being just off the B6360. Edinburgh is 35 miles to the north and the towns of Galashiels and Melrose are two miles away. There is a good selection of hotels and B&Bs in the area, together with some of the best eating places in the Borders.

Covering just under a mile of double bank fishing, the beat has eight named pools (detailed descriptions are available from www.pavilion-estate.co.uk/middlepavilion), with areas suitable for novices and experienced anglers alike. Most of the fishing is accessible from the grassy or shingle bank, when necessary wading is easy along gravel. At certain heights of water, some of the pools provide the opportunity to fish from the boat. This allows the beat to fish well in both high and low water.

Middle Pavilion has one full time, experienced ghillie, Mick Charlton, who is always at hand to assist you with your fishing needs. He is a keen angler and fly tier, and is happy to advise you on equipment you require for your day’s fishing.

The facilities provided include, an on-site toilet, car parking and a well-appointed hut with raised decking, basic cooking facilities, outdoor tables and chairs where you can enjoy your lunch while watching the river flow by. During the colder months indoor heating is provided.
