The Monaro offers the best wild brown trout fly fishing on mainland Australia. Situated on the South East tablelands of the Snowy Mountains (altitude 750 – 1170 meters.)

Several slow moving river systems shed the Monaro with shallow runs between series of deep, slow pools and  channels formed between Lilly pads and  a variety of water plants, giving educated brownies an abundant supply of various aquatic insects with beetles and other terrestrials making fly fishing the only way to trick these challenging educated fish. This tests ones ability to spot, stalk and cast undetected to cruising and stationary feeding fish which at times will test even experienced anglers nerves and cunning ability.

I believe in working hard for clients to get results. If that means getting onto the water before first light and finishing on dark then that’s exactly what to expect, its up to the individual. This by no means is the only way we fish the Monaro, most clients like to be on the water from 9.30 am until 3.30pm when the action usually slows. It’s not unusual to find a pleasant area to lay around after lunch and rest until 5.00pm then prepare for the evening rise, finishing on dark.

I am prepared to make sure you leave with the best chance of seeing and catching fish on the Monaro. Typically like other destinations, to what is at times seems a difficult fishery, there may be days where a blank is drawn

With Lodge accommodation on my property.  Kungla, which is on the headwaters of the Numeralla river, hold 2 large spillways containing Platypus and many Brown and Rainbow trout. we are able to eat whenever we desire with continental breakfast being included in the price of accommodation. Dinners are available after dark which is convenient when fishing the evening rise during daylight savings,(when dark falls as late as 9.00pm).

Expect to see wildlife such as Wombats, Kangaroos and Platypus while fishing on the Monaro.
